The ICIUM 2011 program is evolving. The conference schedule overview can be downloaded from the box on the right. The following types of sessions are being planned.

Conference opening

This session will introduce the major themes and vision for the conference.

Plenary sessions

One-hour plenary sessions will begin each half-day topic discussion. Plenaries will consist of 2 to 3 presentations or of a panel discussion on a particular topic. Plenaries will highlight key issues in the medicines field, relevant to the theme of the half-day in which the plenary is given (international, national, institutional, provider, patient).

Parallel track sessions

Track sessions are designed to achieve the conference goals: consensus on evidence; policy recommendations; and a research agenda. For each topic track, five 2-hour parallel track sessions are being designed which will consist of oral presentations of accepted abstracts, and/or panel discussions of specific issues, followed by discussion with the track session audience.

Poster discussions

All accepted abstracts will be presented as posters and all posters will be displayed throughout the conference days. During lunch time, track teams will organize discussions of selected posters relevant to the track topics of the day. Authors of posters selected for discussion will give a brief summary of their work and answer questions.

Methods/special topics sessions

In several parallel sessions, we will discuss important data sources, tools, and analysis methods to generate evidence for improving use of medicines.

Within-track summaries

In these parallel sessions, track team members and audiences will summarize their discussions from the previous five parallel track sessions and prepare a summary presentation to be given after the morning break on the last conference day.

Presentation of track summaries

In this plenary session, each track will present a summary of evidence discussed, policy recommendations based on the evidence, and suggestions for future research, as discussed in their track.

Conference summary

This session will synthesize the consensus, open questions, recommendations for policy change, and research agenda emerging from within and across-track discussions throughout the conference and set an agenda for policy development and research at different levels of the health care system.

Ad-hoc meeting options

Conference organizers will reserve space for small-group ad-hoc meetings of conference participants.

Pre- and post-conference satellite meetings

Preceding and after the conference, interest groups formed by different organizations or around a specific project have the opportunity to hold satellite meetings relevant to their constituencies. These meetings may be limited to invited constituencies or open to all ICIUM 2011 participants, as desired by the satellite meeting organizers. For more information about satellite meetings see here.
