ICIUM 2011
Satellite Meetings

Considerations regarding Satellite Meeting Programs

ICIUM 2011 will bring together a select group of about 600 experts on medicines issues from over 80 countries, including researchers, clinicians, policy makers, members of international organizations, among others. Over the course of the conference days, participants will actively (a) assemble the state-of-the-art knowledge about ways to improve medicines use and health in low and middle-income countries, especially for the most vulnerable populations; (b) formulate strategies for sustainably improving use at different levels in the health care system; (c) identify ways to monitor and evaluate the effects of such strategies; and (d) develop a research agenda to further knowledge about how to improve medicines use. Please see here for more information on the conference program.

Organizations may want to actively engage ICIUM 2011 participants through the scheduling of satellite meetings before or after the conference. Following is information for scheduling a satellite meeting.

Rules for Satellite Meetings

  • Satellite Meetings cannot take place in parallel to the official conference program.
  • Satellite Meetings may either be open or closed to general conference participants. This decision will be made by the organization hosting the satellite meeting.
  • Satellite Meetings are independently organized by the host organization, with only limited logistic support from the ICIUM 2011 International and Local Organizing Committees.
  • The ICIUM 2011 Scientific Program and Organizing Committees will review the contents and speakers of the satellite meetings to ensure that satellite meetings are consistent with the scientific and philosophical principles of the conference.

Logistics

Satellite meetings will be scheduled at the Kervansaray Lara Convention Center, depending on availability of space. They need to be planned and led by the organization holding the meeting. Satellite meetings may be open to ICIUM 2011 participants, or by invitation only, as decided by the host organization.

Rooms for satellite meetings hold between 60 and 225 participants. Satellite meeting space is available on the morning of Monday, November 14, 2011. Assignment of that space will be determined by the International Organizing Committee. Satellite meetings that are open to all ICIUM 2011 participants and that directly relate to the goals of the conference will receive preference. Costs associated with the satellite sessions will be covered by the conference.

ICIUM 2011 organizers will allocate space for all satellite sessions. ICIUM 2011 organizers will need to know the objectives of the satellite meeting, approximate size of the expected audience, whether the proposed meeting is open or closed, duration of the meeting, and any audiovisual needs. Arrangements must be made as soon as possible but no later than September 1, 2011. Please see below for submitting a request for a satellite meeting.

Submitting Requests for Satellite Meetings

All requests need to be approved by the ICIUM 2011 International Organizing Committee for consistency of the satellite program with the goals of ICIUM 2011. A short description of the purpose of your satellite meeting is required.

Please complete this short form and return it to icium2011@msh.org. You will receive an acknowledgement of your request within 5 days of submission. Please send inquiries to icium2011@msh.org.

Information on all confirmed satellite meetings that are open to conference participants will be published in the official ICIUM 2011 program.
